Naturally when I said I was doing the Scotian Scoop I had to reach out to a dear friend of mine Janet Dermody of Cape Breton Originals. Someone who I have know just over a year, and connected with on various issues, some controversial which we both took heat for (lol), I had to share what a great human being she really is with everyone I could think of! An individual whome I swear I could javelin known most of my life. While many of our views are similar, even if we don’t see things the same we still are able to unite forces for the greater good to try and make a difference in the world, or at least our respected cities in Nova Scotia!

– Who are you, and how did Cape Breton Originals begin?
I am Janet Dermody. A Grandma of 5 and a Mother of 3. I was born and raised in Cape Breton and still here now! Cape Breton Originals came to be with a friend and podcaster. It was something to pass time and something to get information shared to people in the community. Much of which was information that you needed to know someone to get it! Living here my whole life you learn who has the latest scoop and who is there to let stories honestly be spoken. It helps to build a good relationship with locals when you too are one because you never know how you can help someone or they can help you!
– What kind of things do you talk about with your page?
Nothing is off limits. Anything is talked about here. From corruptions with government agencies as well as local reviews for food places. There are some serious subjects and cool how to videos on things I have learned in my many years to make things easy for anyone. If I think its worth sharing I will share it with anyone who wants to listen! I like to share the raw side of stories without sugar coating or worrying about hurt feelings.
– Have you encountered trolls and haters? If so, how do you handle them?
OMG! YES! They comment on any post or on a comment itself and it doesnt even matter if they agree they just want to start to have issues. It also doesnt matter if you have all the evidence in the world they just want to make your life suck a little bit even if they can only do so by gaslighting. It’s not so much a topic about you as it does show who they are as a character.
– What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about anything that tugs at my heart. I want to cry, be sad, I want to invoke emotions. I want to have my breath taken away. I want to have happy tears and smiling from ear to ear. I figure if I am passionate about it, and I share it also, someone else will also likely be passionate about it. And that means it is worth talking about to me.
– Any big plans for your page in the coming year?
No big plans. Whatever I feel like sharing isn’t really planned and it just happens as I get more passionate about something. Could be with my property that I am clearing up or a protest that I might believe in. Just going to keep being me!
– Is there anything you would change since you began this content creation journey?
Don’t think so. Sometimes people don’t like your content and that is totally fine. The people who do like your content will find it. But changing what I have done wouldn’t be me! Though I would like to change the tech surrounding the earlier days to deliver messages better. That is something that could have been improved but you live and learn!
