Scotian Spotlight: Bree Von Tease

In the realm of Pin Ups this women is no stranger. Competing in various countries and competitions, while holding the Ms Canadian Pinup title. I had to reach out and pick her mind with a few questions regarding this modeling space. **All photos used were taken by Jason Shinners

***As usual my two cents will be put in with the stars and smaller font under what is asked in the interview!

–  Tell me a little bit about yourself?!

● Well, howdy! My name is Bree Von Tease, and I’m originally from Cow Bay, NS, but reside in Sack Vegas! I’m a vintage enthusiast and love traveling to compete and rep Nova Scotia in pinup contests! So far I’ve competed in New Brunswick (where the majority of the scene is here in the maritimes), Arizona, as well as here in Nova Scotia. I am the current title holder for the national Ms Canadian Pinup, as well as got the Pinup Spirit Award from the show I was at in Tombstone, Arizona; it was cool being the first Canadian at the show in Tombstone, and being the current Ms Canadian Pinup whilst doing so was such an amazing moment!).

****LITERALLY HOW FREAKING COOL!!

– What made you decided you wanted to try out for Canadian Pinup competition?

● I’ll be honest..I almost backed out after signing up for it. I’m glad I didn’t, though. At the time I was in a dark place where I felt as if I didn’t belong in the scene and was letting it affect me. I am grateful I was able to switch gears and remember what my grandmother used to tell me growing up…how it didn’t matter if a millionaire was in the same space as you….you still have the right to take up the same space. I redirected my focus back on me and getting back to my roots and amplifying that to the max. In the end, it all paid off and not only did I come out with a title, but with a whole new perspective on things. It was the first time Ms Canadian Pinup came to the east coast, and I got to take home the title while repping our province. It felt so surreal!

– Is this your regular style that you wear daily, or is it something you do for special occasions? What made you drawn to pin up styles?

● I love wearing vintage inspired outfits! Albeit, working out and at my job I cant’ really go full pinup glam – I save that for the weekends! – I do use elements and what I like to call ‘vintage casual’. I absolutely love the glamour and confidence that comes with vintage styling. I mean, who doesn’t want to wear a dramatic dressing gown while drinking tea out of a fancy porcelain tea cup or a cosmopolitan? (No 86ing of a husband is required for this style, despite what some may say, haha!). I love the fabrics that were used, the tailoring that went into the styles…it’s just a quality that’s seldom to see anymore.

****So true! This is a style that needs to be brought back even if small glimpses around the city and world too!

– What are some of the challenging parts of this Adventure?

● The most challenging parts I’d have to say include staying true to oneself and your vision, not letting yourself or others get into your headspace and sidetrack you, creating new concepts to try to outdo your last show, and always on that relentless hunt for the perfect shade of red lipstick, haha. Quite the spectrum, but there’s quite a bit! Myself as well as others across the country have experienced bullying to an extent while in the scene. We’re grown adults…this shouldn’t be happening. But if I had to rank what is the top challenge to conquer, it would probably be dealing with the more psychological things that impact everything overall. But just like most challenges, it’s something that can be overcome with a good support system and trust in self.

– Do you have any advice for anyone who might also be thinking of going into this type of journey?

● Honestly to just do it. Take that leap of faith and stick to your guns. There’s so many good resources at our disposal nowadays that can make it easier to look through and find what calls to you. There are others one can learn from in the scene as well, but always take everything with a grain of salt. Main thing is to be you, and find that thing that makes you unique….your niche. There is already a lot of people doing their own thing, but there won’t be another you. So rock with it.

– What is in the future? Defending the title? Traveling for more opportunities? Staying around home for a little bit?

● I’m just like the weather here in NS…you never know what I’ll do next! But I do have a show at Radical Speedsport in the books, as well as competing for Ms Nova Scotia Pinup which will be online this year. Plus, whichever shows pop up in 2026, more than likely I’ll be in attendance! Ms Canadian Pinup will be taking place elsewhere in Canada this summer, and I can’t wait to see who the next titleholder will be. When the show comes back to the East Coast in probably 2028, I get to sit in the judge’s seat! Eeks! In 2027 I plan on flying out to Alberta, to compete at the Queen of the Badlands show in Drumheller! Thinking into 2027 already? A girl can’t help it!
