There is no surprise that main stream media has gone to absolute shit in the past decade (minimum). And if that very first statement offended you, than you are in for a wild roller coaster type of a ride reading this.
The media prides itself in giving unbiased information to the public. But not without their hidden agenda showing. In recent news against the news outlet CBC, they came under fire for their use of internal language guide to journalists and how they use “terrorist or terrorism” to describe the attacks in the United States that left the country reeling. Many wondered why they (news outlet) would choose to use any other words than the actual words that have been used to describe these attacks for decades. They have since clarified their stance to allow this use of words when describing historic events such as the attacks of 911 and otherwise.
I myself, a content creator with a broad opinion of topics that often mirror the greater public opinion, was a target of the CBC on recent months after one of their video producers meticulously searched my profile for videos they could copyright claim, something I’ve never done when sharing video screen shots was ever claim those videos were my own. I often would share with the logos, sign offs, and information in full within the post, including my own opinions on the video/photo/story in question. With then adding my own opinions in the posts itself dissecting the information posted and giving my thoughts. Keep in mind, a content creator of less than 10k followers. Two videos I posted were given a strike, one from early 2026, which was a quick shot of the missing children in Lansdowne Station in Nova Scotia, Lilly and Jack Sullivan, Their grandmother speaking out, and another was from May of 2025. The strikes occurred in August of 2026. Had this video producer felt the need to actually have them taken down, I would have likely agreed and removed them, instead they took the time they had to go back through months, and a year + of my content seeking these.
Another instance where the news media was purposefully omitting information was in the situation where a child was poked with a needle at a local School in Lower Sackville. The student was playing after school on the property (though the school board stated this incident had happened outside of the property boundaries) the news specifically stated as seen here by a CTV reporter who covered the story, they described the incident as a student “found” needle implying the student was seeking out a needle, looking for one. Which is false. A family friend who first posted the story on the Facebook Group Ask Nova Scotia: Anything Goes (Mostly) and later confirmation from a family member to my very own inbox stated this was not the case the news were painting. Their child was playing after school hours, and while running they stepped on the needle which then punctured their shoes and they were poked with the dirty needle. What makes matters worse is the community had been pleading with local officials whom left their phone calls and emails, asking for something to be done to prevent this from happening, unanswered.
Let’s not forget the bear attack shall we. In August of 2024 multiple news outlets had reported that a male in Eastern Passage was attacked by a bear. Jumping this story for the odd timeline. However, the authorities had stated that there was never any indicators of a bear attack. I personally had family members of this individual in my inbox stating the story was indeed false and the person was in the middle of a mental health episode. Which also shows how quick the media was to jump on such a story even without cause and without sharing or highlighting the importance of mental health care. In fact, their story could be seen as feeding the individual whom believed they were attacked by a bear, into any delusions they may have been suffering from, if this was the cause of their mental health. Only after the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables stated there was no bear attack did they clarify this also.
You really don’t have to go far to see that to see that there are places here that show the media and their blunders. And while they do correct the information they seem to misrepresent, the fact that they allow these things to even be published is mind blowing.
Which brings me to the Scotian Scoop. You didn’t think I would stop without mentioning this would you? All these situations are frustrating. Which is why I started the Scotian Scoop. The Scoop is an information distribution system, Dancing around the words here for obvious reasons (cough Facebook cough). Only unlike other outlets, I allow contributors to fully see the story they will have published. I make sure they are happy with the information that is being let out. No funny business, No quick edits or omitting information. What you see in this is what is published. I password protect the final piece, you review, and then it goes live, After approval. And while I am slowly starting to learn more and more, and finding more and more people reaching out, this is a wonderful thing I can’t wait to grow with you all. I will even post frequently in Ask Nova Scotia: Anything Goes (Mostly) asking for people to give their opinions on topics also, this is a collective effort so all voices can be heard.
BUT WAIT! There is more! I also have a side project as part of the Scotian Scoop known as the “Scotian Spotlight”. This is where we showcase various people from all walks of life, creators, artists crafters, podcasters, and more. Which mind you, sounds like it may be easy to find folks, but I guess they may not want to be part of the movement so to speak, and that is okay too! If you want to throw someone’s name in the ring for them to have the spotlight you can always message me too on my page here
