Why I Love My Soda Stream

Before I begin, No, This is not a paid sponsorship or advertisement for Soda Stream. However if they (The people at Soda Stream) were to see this YES. I would love to talk sponsorship or whatever you want. Mind you this is also strictly my opinion on it and why you should give it a try. If you don’t agree you are more than welcome to disagree! I welcome that! I just know for me I really enjoy the soda stream myself and figure why not share this with you all! And for anyone on the fence hopefully it is a transparent post where you can see some pro’s and con’s that I find for the product and decide for yourself!

My first experience with Soda Stream was actually at my old job. I used to take care of people who had intellectual and physical disabilities in their homes. One Christmas I was working and had to bring a gentleman to his family’s house for the Holidays. His brother actually had one and asked if I would like to try it. Before this I had only ever seen the commercials but had never seen it in person or even know anyone that had one. I mean, after all, if I wanted pop I would just buy it right? He had mentioned that before the Soda Stream they drank a lot of pop. And after they still drink a lot but they find themselves grabbing just the fizz from the water more then the flavorings themselves. In doing so, had also lost weight since the Soda Stream typically has 1/3 the calories as your name brand soda.

It wasn’t til a little while later my boyfriend and I were out when I convinced him we should have one for our house. I hyped it up for sure since he can be a lot wiser then I with money. We got it! And a sample pack with something like 12 flavors in a single use pouch you just squirt into the bottle after you make the water fizzy. It was a great way to really get to see which flavors you liked before committing to a larger jug of syrup. Not that they were super expensive or anything however it wouldn’t be super great if you committed to a larger sie syrup bottle if you didn’t like that flavor. It had many different samplers, such as orange and cola, a lemon and lime flavor and their diet counter parts as well. If you are looking for something you like this was the best bet. There was even a grapefruit flavor in sampler pack as well too! Which we both liked as well.

I will say this, If you are looking for a cheaper alternative for regular brand make pop like Coca-Cola you will not find it here because it will not replace that flavor. If you are seeking a Pepsi substitute you will not find that either. It is cheaper in the sense you buy the bottles of gas and you exchange it and get a refund where the refund will be technically make the new bottle approx $20.00 Canadian. And it does last for a while and you can basically pick and choose which you would like in terms of flavor whether that be a similar flavor to “Dr Pepper” where their brand is known as “Dr Pete”. Think about a store brand flavor like, Great Value, or President Choice, or Big 8, That will be the flavor of pop you get from these syrups. It does get the job done when you are craving it, But if you want the specific pop it will not achieve that. Or at least I have found sometimes I have gone out and gotten different name brand pop to satisfy that craving.

Another bonus that I really appreciate my soda stream for is the lower calories. For someone like me who has been fairly open about my struggles with weight loss this has been a great alternative. Not to mention the fact it has one third the calories is an added bonus. I will say as well about the flavor it does not taste all fake sugar aspartame either. I for one am not a fan of diet pops because I do not like the taste of fake sugar. I find that it leaves this weird film on your mouth and it sticks with me all day. Not to mention it also seems to more often than not give me heartburn which is never fun to deal with during the day and if I can prevent it I will! I don’t find Soda Stream flavors do this. Sure they obviously have less sugar if they are less calories, but they certainly don’t really sacrifice the flavor by doing so. The way I see it is this, If I am slacking and really would like to have pop, I will reach for the soda stream first. If I am doing well on counting calories and what not then I will reach for a regular pop to satisfy the cravings. I also have noticed if we have the syrup in the house I am reaching more so for the flavorings to make the fizzy water similar to the cheap bottles you would get at your local grocery store.

Overall, If possible, I would for sure recommend the soda stream to anyone looking to curb their drinking of soft drinks or even wanting to cut calories and still enjoying what they love. If possible though, I would suggest asking a friend if you know one who has a Soda Stream to be able to try it out. it does take a bit of effort though in terms of making the bottle yourself but overall it really is simple. For me if I am planning on making a bottle I will throw a few water filled bottles in the fridge to get chilled for later in the day. Sure, it may not be as simple as opening a can or twisting off a top from a bottle of Pepsi, But it certainly has a better feeling drinking it knowing that it isn’t loaded with sugar and unnecessary calories!

Do you have a Soda Stream

if so, Do you like it or regret your purchase

Weight Loss Wednesday #1 – Jan 14th-Jan 20th[6 Days]

I need to be held accountable. Simple as that.

I have decided to do so, I will be bringing you along the weight loss journey. We recently have gotten AMAZING News about moving back to my home province so that means weight loss before baby number 2. And I mean I have to hammer down NOW! I will be writing blogs every other Wednesday til about June or so when we move. Every 2 weeks I will update (with pictures!!)

Three criteria: Days I smoked weed, Days I exercised, and Days under calories (Max 1500). Along with triumphs and struggles, and updated side and front photos too. Normally I pick subjects and write about them and if they become relevant schedule them or write about a current subject as it pops up. Not this time. Chances are you are reading this blog and it was written last night. I will have photos of calendars that I will be filling out to see things easier and an overview of how I am doing. I wont be typing up what exactly I eat in a day as I do not have the time to do that but this will be a good overview for all you visual readers! Simple “X” Day’s mean that I failed at the calendar’s goals. While if I pass I will briefly fill it in. If I am under my calories I will Highlight it with a marker, if I don’t smoke weed it will be colored in, and if I exercise I will briefly write it in ie: Elliptical 40 mins, Exercise DVD, etc. and I will write a reflection on each calendar and then a brief spot after for my struggles and victories of the week!

If you are someone who is familiar with my blogs you know that I struggle with weight loss, I have most of my life and recently wrote about it too, You can read that blog here.

My low goal is to lose 30lbs before we move. Which is no over-reaching. If I lose anywhere from 30-50lbs that would be a major bonus for me. My starting weight is 242.4lbs. I know. I feel like a whale and need to take control of myself again. The goal before baby number 2 is cooking in there is under 210lbs. It is totally doable I just need to hammer down and stop eating my feelings, good and bad.

These are my before photos. I am unhappy. I hate how I look. And I am ready to be healthy once and for all. My current weight in these photos (Taken on Friday, January 15th, 2021) 242.4lbs. I feel like even if I was to drop below 210lbs that would be a huge accomplishment for me.
Measurements are:
Waist -47.0 Inches
Hips- 54.0 Inches
Bust – Over – 46.0 Inches
– Under – 39.5 Inches
Thighs – Left – 30.5 Inches
-Right – 30.0 Inches
Arms – Left – 13.5 Inches
– Right – 14.5 Inches

I always do measurements only because I know sometimes I haven’t lost really any pounds and I have lost inches and that is a little extra motivator!

Exercise Log

No description available.
Any exercise is good, but ideal would be a Workout DVD or 40 minute Elliptical workout!

Obviously I need to majorly up this. However I find that I struggle if my son doesn’t sleep very well during the day. That being said my next goal for the following 2 weeks is to workout 8 days out of 14. That would be every other day or any day I don’t stream. Which is doable since I can do it once he (my son) falls asleep at night. If his dad is off in the afternoon or only has to go in for the afternoon then I will be doing a workout while he is home. Unless I have a feeling my son will have an extra long nap then I will try to get the 40 minute Elliptical workout there!

Under Calories

No description available.
Check with a ? Means that I assume close or under, but I ate something I’m not entirely sure what the calories were as I couldn’t find anything with the exact number.

Again. You can probably see this as being a direct result of me smoking weed and munching out. The goal is to have 10/14 days under calories in the next 2 weeks. If I need to go to bed early after I make my Son’s bottles are made for the following day so be it. But I need to stop the late night snacking and munching because working out doesn’t mean a free pass to eating as much as someone at an all you can eat buffet.

Days Smoked Weed

No description available.
X = For sure smoked a joint that day.. LOL

This is also obviously a problem as well too. When I do so well during the day time I completely ruin it at night by smoking and munching on so many calories in such a small amount of time. My goal ultimately is to smoke weed MAXIMUM of 4 evenings. My goal is to only smoke on Saturday’s however there is an occasional day through the week where I would like to smoke it will be before a bath or bed so I am away from the kitchen!

Struggles

Weed is a constant struggle for me. Would I say I am addicted? No. Would I say I love getting high. Yes. But if I am going to lose weight I need to really cut back. My goal for the next 2 weeks is to smoke no more than 4 days in 14. I smoke at night when my son goes to bed but I need to cut back. And if I need to switch work outs to as soon as he goes to sleep to get there that is what I will have to do! Getting into the habit is hard for me because with being in quarantine I am unable to do anything. However I need to focus and really have some self discipline and not give in to temptations.

Victories

The fact that I worked out I would consider a victory for me. Working out normally is not a huge problem for me but to be able to do a few days instead of none is also great. Another would be that I do have some under calorie days which again, would be considered a victory for me.

Reflection

I know I can lose weight. I have done it before. I feel extremely nervous though sharing everything about me physically and basically opening myself up to you all. I think it is a way for me to be held accountable though and I am looking forward to where it takes me. I hope if you are reading this and made it here that you know that you are not alone in this. You can do it and even if you have a bad day it doesn’t mean all of your progress is gone!

January Update 2021

Naturally I’m slacking at anything and everything. But, don’t we all during the holidays? I feel like this year I completely was in a “screw it” mindset. From being on lock down and unable to go anywhere for Christmas, not even to my Uncle’s house to celebrate. I have felt like just kind of going into a minor sad sack party for one where I just don’t do anything at all. This has been basically all. Here is an update though however horrible it may turn out due to the fact that I am kind of hoping writing about it and prepping for this will help me get into a great mindset! As normal I am writing this a few days before it is released due to the fact that well, I have a 10 month old son and it is a lot easier to prep myself for blogs coming out then struggle to get it out on the exact day I release them to you all! So here we go into our update!

Weight Loss and Workouts have been non-existent. Going forward obviously I am going to be starting a new workout schedule. I am going to try doing the Elliptical 5 days a week, These will be on Saturday and Sunday, And then Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Monday and Friday will be off days for Elliptical. I also would like to introduce some workout DVD’s into the mix. My goal is to do those about 4 or 5 days a week as well maybe Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday’s. Those will be just to change things up a bit and I’m able to put my son in his play pen while I do them. Obviously I wont be doing them if my Boyfriend is home because I find it embarrassing to do something like that if he were to watch. They also are about 30 minutes and I am sure my son will find it funny to see Mommy jumping around and or dancing and things as well too. I think by changing it up I wont get so bored of working out. As far as calories goes, I am sticking to anywhere from 1250 to 1750 calories per day as well. I know it will be hard to do but I have faith I can do it though. I have only allowed myself about 7 days to smoke weed and if I count my birthday in the beginning of the month as well as every Saturday it really only leaves me with 1 flex smoking weed day. With this goal munching and sabotaging myself will probably be non-existent I hope.

Streaming is something I am really looking forward to this year. I am loving the Art streams on Sunday’s and hope to incorporate more into the schedule as well too. I am going to start with streaming 4 days a week again and have a bit more structure. I am confident I can make this work because I wont be smoking as much weed either. When I smoke too much before a stream I get lazy and end streams way too early, or I just am not in a good attitude. And even if I am I just want to munch and I’m not putting my all into content creation like I should be doing. i want to make the channel more of a brand and not just a person playing video games. I would like to convey to people that I am taking this content creation thing seriously and that I would like to make some sort of “Job” out of this as well too. In order to do that as “Easy” as it might be, I need to treat it like a job and I wouldn’t be getting high or leaving work early right!

Art is going to be a bigger focus in my life and streams. Everyone needs some sort of creative outlet. This is what I am going to be doing. Sometimes Ill be doing artwork for when (Hopefully this year) we move back to Nova Scotia. Sometimes Ill be doing art work to go up on my socials for sale and hopefully make a few dollars that way also. I will be using this as a creative outlet and hopefully become more zen with myself. I find I can let a lot of little things effect me and make me angry when they shouldn’t. I lash out at my loved ones of I bottle things up til I get really mad. I shouldn’t be doing this. Not to mention being stuck inside due to COVID certainly has not helped anyone either. This is a way for me to really start to be in touch with my creative self again. Whether it be beginning to write in my books or whether it be drawing or writing. This is something growing up my parents would always nurture. Whether they gave encouraging words, or they were buying me different and new art supplies they always wanted me to be doing something like this because they knew I was able to. Even crafting and things as well. I need to do more of this in my life and streaming and sharing it with others is exactly how I am going to do that!

Financial Independence is something that I would like to get back. Being a stay at home mom is great but I miss being able to have some type of an income coming in. Whether it be with streams or the blog or some premium content in the future I know that I would like to make a monthly income of 250-500$. I don’t think that is unreasonable with what I am doing now its tweaking and making things more accessible to what people may be wanting in their life. I will be giving myself til the end of the year to try to make a somewhat steady income.

This is a super rough over view of my update for January.

What are your goals you would like to achieve before the year is out, Are they different then last year.

Let me know what your helpful tips are when you are trying to keep on track of things.
I am always looking for different ways to adapt my own too!

My Favorite Foods

If you are no stranger to my previous blogs especially on weight loss you will find out this will be no shocker my favorite foods are nearly all junk food. I am pretty unhealthy in terms of food as there is many food groups I barely even touch. However like anyone I do have some favorite foods. Most of them I am sure you have heard of and perhaps there may be a few new ones in there that you haven’t, or ones that you also share a love for too!

Chocolate has always been a love of mine. In fact, it was so bad that I used to get patches of dry skin behind my elbows and behind my knees that would tell my parents if I was sneaking too much around the holidays. I love anything from a Terry’s Chocolate Orange to Cadbury Cream Eggs. There really isnt a whole lot of chocolate I wont eat however there are some specific criteria that I do not enjoy. I am not a fan of coconut in chocolate and as far as nuts go in it, it really depends. I can go for a Hersheys Almond bar. They are great. Even a good chocolate with peanuts I can go for. However I don’t normally choose a chocolate with nuts in it unless maybe it is M&M’s peanut or perhaps chocolate covered almonds too. I can also do without gooey and fruity treats too. My mom loves Cherry Blossoms. With the goo and cherries in them. I cannot stand those. It is the texture of them and I just cannot stomach it. As much as I love chocolate I will decline. And of course there is the weird Quality Street chocolates with the gooey flavors inside I also can do without those!

Garlic Fingers is for sure one of my top 3 things that I enjoy and probably something I miss tremendously here in Quebec since there really is no where to get any. Mind you, My culinary skills are up to par and I am able to make pia dough from scratch it still isn’t the same though. I miss being able to order out and enjoy it. My mom used to even make a few mini pans of it growing up so all we had to do was add cheese and put it in the oven. I normally just make it when I feel like it now though I don’t think I put enough love into it because it never really quite tastes the same. It always is edible however sometimes it is just extraordinary and other times it is just good. Or maybe it tastes better when my mom made it because I wasn’t putting in the effort to put it together.

Kraft Dinner has been a staple in my life since I can remember and to be fair, though I now have a child, and will probably not be making it for them as much, It still will be something that I love and enjoy for the rest of my life. Mind you if I ever became lactose intolerant I would probably have it a whole lot less I just would weight the risk when having it though! I love all the kinds of kraft dinner even the store brand extra creamy and white cheddar too. The only thing is that it can take a different cooking style if it is the store brand. It’s something I make many different ways as well. Sometimes I add more milk, other times I add more butter, some times I even dont add milk or butter and vice versa too! Sometimes we add hot dogs in or bacon bits and sometimes real shredded stuff too!

Potato Pancakes are something my mom made when I was a kid and I loved them so much it was typically the meal I choose for my Birthday meal year after year. They are super simple to make and they are always awesome. My mom and I would eat these the same, With a bit of salt and pepper and some butter. Since it was basically a type of hash brown. My dad on the other hand would eat them like french fries he would put ketchup on them. And lastly my sister which is super weird would put syrup on them! why or how it worked or tasted I have no idea. I couldn’t stomach thinking about putting syrup on potato pancakes. Her theory was they were pancakes after all.

Log Cabin Potatoes are something we only ever ate at Christmas time. Though, when my grandfather was alive sometimes he would treat us by making them on thanksgiving as well too which made them delicious though. These were mashed potatoes that were rolled into logs. They are then put in the fridge for a day so they can really harden up and by harden I don’t mean they get hard but they kind of get stuck together. After that you roll them in an egg and water mix and roll them in crushed corn flakes. After this you then deep fry them in oil. Before we would deep fry them once, and then a second closer to supper however everyone was eating scattered since you could only deep fry so many of them. Instead now we deep fry them and put them in the fridge. Afterwards we just put them in the oven to preheat them and they normally get crispy again and saves on the fat and everyone can eat them all at once together too.

Nuggets and Fries I think most people can agree is the staple of many children and low and behold it is something myself as a 30 something year old love too. I’m not super picky on kinds but man would I love the dinosaur nuggets though they are amaing. Other than that I like to bake my friend in the oven. We dont have a deep fryer and i always put it in a lot more though. My boyfriend is someone who follows the instructions on the box however anytime I do that I always find that they are never in long enough and the fries are pretty much always floppy with no crisp. Maybe for kids but not for me. I normally leave them in 40 minutes or so unless shoestring fries because they burn super fast compared to others.

As you can tell those are my favorite foods, And after reading this you may be asking yourself if I really am a 30-something year old woman or if I am an under 12 year old child. What can I say though, these are my favorites and I cannot wait to enjoy them, 1st being the Log Cabin Potatoes coming up at Christmas!

What are your favorite foods? Are they from when you were a child or are they advanced as you grew up and tried new things? Let me know in the comments below!!

Holiday Baking + Recipes!

As the holidays are fast approaching and I am sure they are well welcomed this year due to 2020 not being the most pleasant of years to date in my life time anyways, I think most can agree that holiday baking is one of the things we all look forward to the most. There is probably some recipes that have been handed down that you may make yourself or you just wait for a loved one to make. For me I think I kind of wing it but I also have some recipes that I make that my mom has made too! Let’s dive in shall we!

Pretzels. Pretzels. Pretzels. This is a staple for my holiday baking. I love to make chocolate bark. Normally I use chocolate wafers for this however this year due to the virus I decided to get milk chocolate since it was at my local grocery store. I always start with a layer of pretzel on the bottom and melt whatever I am using, whether it is chocolate or the chocolate wafers (Which are cheaper if you are looking to save money!). I typically make two kinds, the first one I chuck some holiday M&Ms so red and green, so it adds a bit of color, sometimes I swirl different colors on it as well like white chocolate in there. The 1st is more about salty and sweet than anything so I try to keep it simple. The second one I did this year was a peppermint one. To do that I just lined pretzels on a tray with melted milk chocolate and put some candy canes on the top. Normally they are crushed but this time I just put them hole and would break them as they would be cut, and then I took girl guide mint cookies and cut those into pieces to put on the top as well! It seemed to work well and they look great too!

Next I make peanut butter balls. Funny enough, my mom called me the other day asking for the recipe and I really don’t have one. But for the sake of this I will do my best here.

2 Cups of Peanut butter
3/4 cup of butter/margerine
3-5 cups of icing sugar (Til the mixture becomes clay? It should not stick to your finger if you touch the mixture)
1-2 cups of Rice Krispies (Depending on how crunchy you would like your balls to be!)

For Dipping
Dark Chocolate
Vegetable oil OR paraffin wax
Sea Salt (Optional)

Start with the peanut butter and margarine/butter and melt it in a pot.

Once everything is melted and mixed start adding icing sugar, You will know when you have enough when the mixture will no longer be sticky. It will almost form kind of a ball or clumps. When it starts to get this way slowly add icing sugar as to not add too much that you are unable to incorporate it in. The point is when you start to make the balls the dough/mixture will not stick to your hands because the icing sugar will be there to keep it not sticky.

Once you hit this stage it should be a bit tough to even stir to be honest, and you can start adding rice krispies to your mixture/dough. You can add as little or as much as you like.
(My mom does this step backwards where she will add the rice krispies before the icing sugar and it just turns out fine I suppose. For me I like this way as it really makes things blended and not clumpy).

Once you have everything combined, start to roll the mixture into balls and put them on a tray with some sort of protective layer like foil, or parchment paper or wax paper. (Remember they have to be dipped in chocolate so bigger is not always better!)

Once you have them rolled throw them in the fridge.

Melt your chocolate on a double broiler on low heat. I use a touch of vegetable oil when the chocolate is melted just to slightly thin it out and make it easier to coat. After you dip the chocolates you can sprinkle some sea salt over the top (Flakes or rock). I didn’t do this as there was none in the house but it is possible to do!

Next I make a whipped shortbread cookie. This is by no means my recipe nor is it a family one or anything. It is one my mom uses from a Companys Coming cookbook. Im sure you know someone who has this book as there are legit SO MANY different collections. The recipe that I use is here:

Whipped ShortBread Cookies

1lb Butter (2 Cups)
1 Cup Icing Sugar
1\2 Cup of Cornstarch
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
3 Cups Flour

Beat all ingredients until it looks like whopped cream. Drop by the teaspoon on cookie sheet. Bake at 350f for 10 minutes. Add chopped red or green cherries on top before baking.

I think this can really go any way you wish. I dont do the cherries however I do roll them into balls. Then I use a fork to push it down too, since if you dont do this they will not level out on their own! This year I also dipped them into red sugar and sprinkles before pressing them down with a fork too. It really depends you also could probably roll them out and use cookie cutters too if you wanted to also! Use your imagination!

And lastly but certainly not least, My world famous Bits and Bites mix! Okay, Maybe they arent world famous (Yet) And they are a knock off of the recipe on the box of Crispex but I have dont the same modified recipe since I was a kid. This was one of the first things for baking that I was able to do since I loved them so much my mom let me take the reins. This is how I made it this year, Obviously things are inter changable and optional. Ill write what I put in and what I have put in also so you can build your own mix!

1 Box Crispex Cereal
1 Box Cheese Nibs
1 Box Swiss Cheese Crackers
Pretzels (To your liking)
Peanuts (To Your Liking)
1 Box Cheese Bits

Sauce
1 Cup Butter\Margerine
1 Small Bottle Worsherchire Sauce
Garlic Powder
Onion Powder
(I put a lot of each, Way more Onion Powder than Garlic Powder as I find it makes the mix a touch sweet, however if you find baking that you didnt add enough you can always shake some more of which ever you want as it is baking since you have to mix every 15 minutes)

Preheat oven at approx 325f, Once all the ingredients are added and the sauce mixed in. Place on a deep dish baking tray. Not small but enough that it can be easily mixed without making a mess too. Baked for 45 minutes stirring every 15. I also taste along the way to check flavors normally trying a piece of each I put in just to be sure coating is good.

Things that I have seen added are:
– Different types of nuts
– Gold Fish Crackers
– Cheerios
– Popcorn (popped obviously after by adding it.. Do not add this to the oven for obvious reasons.. HAHA)

And that is the extent of my baking this year! I may make more when we hopefully move back home but right now it is basically myself and the boyfriend eating things and I didn’t want us to have so much stuff. Also have to save a few recipes for next years blog post too! Can’t spoil it all! If y9ou found this helpful or you have slight variations let me know! I am always curious about what people add for their recipes too!
