Outdoor Seasonal Take Down

As another warm season winds down and we prepare for fall, there can be a lot to do depending on how much you live outside. For me, I enjoy our large deck the most and then we have an abundance of flower beds and things that also need to be taken care of also. Though some people may find the fall depressing for various reasons, I welcome yet another reason for me to stay inside of the house if it is too chilly outside! Not that I don’t stay inside a lot for the summer but I feel a little less bad when I have to stay inside from the weather being too chilly unless I have to go somewhere!

The easiest part to take down is the deck. Mostly because it can be done in one evening and put into a few boxes and BAM, finished. Right now I have lights up, some are homemade so I need to actually remove the shades from the bulbs. Mostly because I do use them for our Christmas display out front too. The shades and lights are separated though as if they are put into a box together they risk the chance of the shades being damaged and well, I obviously dot want that to happen! I had made them and talk about them here and have a photo of them at the old house too. They should be protected and I should be working hard to ensure they don’t need to be remade often as it can be quite pricey.

Another aspect is all of the little trinkets and candle holders that also will need to be put away. I don’t need to do a whole lot though. I use the place mats and things to insulate the breakable items so that I can save them from year to year. Since half of our deck has an extended roof though I will leave the chairs up. And we do leave the table out also too. As mentioned in previous posts, unless I’m pregnant which we do hope would happen this winter, than it will just sit there but at least we won’t drag it up and down risking breaking it. And it is pretty well protected because snow doesn’t normally pile up underneath. We are pretty lucky to have a deck that can basically be used the entire year if we really want it to.

Next is our gardens. They basically have been self sustaining since we moved in not to mention they are overgrown with weeds. Maybe I’m dumb but I also am really hoping to weed them when the weather gets colder. That way they can be prepped for the next season where maybe we can put a little bit more effort into them now that a lot of the indoor things have been done! There is also a large section to the left of our backyard that has little trees and overgrown plants. I really want to make this spot cleared in hopes that by next year we could perhaps have some sort of play set for the boys to play on. Right now we are good with the deck but still, a play set will go there eventually and Id like to start clearing now sooner than later.

Another thing is planing on decorations as well. Not necessarily a take down but I will be making decorations with left over wood from the basement so planning on where that does is also a good thing as well. I want to prep and already think about where that stuff will go eventually also!

Plants are probably one of the last things I have to really take care of before bringing them into the house. Mainly because I hate bugs and I need to really prep them to not have any bugs though! I have never really taken to plants in my entire life until this year when I had some tropical ones and outdoor plants to take care of also. I really want to make the ones I am bringing inside of the house successful and healthy so I don’t want to have to worry about bugs being brought in. I also have to really pay attention to them and take good care of them. Never did I think I would be a house that would have plants regularly however that is okay too! Before I planned to bring some of the plants in I had started to spray them with a diluted rubbing alcohol mix with water, this was to prevent the bugs from wanting to stick to the actual leaves and things. Next I used a sort of peroxide and water super diluted also solution to water then few that I was bringing back inside. This is to kill any bugs that were actually in the soil, however I will say that the dirt for a lot of them has been dry and the weather has been not so hot so I’m sure that there maybe bugs that have moved on too!

Regardless of what you have to do, The changing from summer to fall can be a somber, sad place for many people. Days get darker faster and for longer, sometimes people even are dreading the time change. I just know for me, embracing the outdoors for the first time since I was a small child has been some what therapeutic for me. I welcome the coming seasons and what they have in store for me to continue to grow and try new things. In fact, the plants have shocked me the most because I legit had no idea about anything and I also could have cared less about them before. But I know that they can really make a home feel great and that is exactly what I am all about here!

Prep for Early Christmas in the Fall

It may come as no surprise that I am addicted to Christmas. And that is saying the very least of the extent of my addiction. I love everything about it. This year there is so many things that are far beyond expensive especially where I am in Canada that I have only just started to think about it in August (Though I know you are probably reading this in the early fall!). My goal for this is to spend the least amount of money possible without breaking the bank, which as we all know with kids can be easier said than done. finding yourself in the overspending hole of endless toys that if I am being honest, they barely use half the time anyways, is something that I am really trying to avoid doing this year.

Photo by Markus Spiske on Pexels.com

One major thing I have been doing is shopping around. I typically check Amazon first for the convenience of it being one site and trying to add things to the kids wish list. I will say for example, the beginning of August I had bought an Elmo guitar doll. My thinking was for my youngest to use when he transitions into a big boy bed however my oldest always talks about Elmo now due to the sesame street, I bought it for nearly 35$. Not more than 2 weeks later it is now on the website for 55$. With more than a 20 dollar increase. The same could be said for the Blues Clues lullaby doll that I had got for our oldest last year. This was about the same price also, It was something that he brings to bed and still plays with as I write this. The highest price that I had seen if go up till though was 70$ which is nearly doubled the price. Shopping a bit earlier if you do have the funds to slowly purchase gifts may save you in the long run as apposed to the rush towards the holidays. If retailers can capitalize on those last minute shoppers, believe me, they certainly will.

Another thing I have been doing is kind of prepping what I would like to give everyone else. My parents we gift things to, my siblings I normally do some sort of a movie night where I put in sweets that I have baked or even some little treats and popcorn since I know they all have Netflix. I even start brain storming for my partner and his stocking too. Thinking ahead about what you want to gift others is huge. This can help you pay or even budget better so that you are able to see what the holidays will cost and predict when and where you can find deals if in fact you know things will have deals. Amazon again makes this easy because you can browse the lists once a week or so and see the price differences, obviously though if they increase they do not advertise that. Don’t be fooled either with a high cost and then it jumping down and looking like a great deal when the price was inflated to begin with too.

Another expensive thing I do now a days is during the Holidays I bake. I bake Bits and bites (Recipe here) Also Peanut Butter Fudge (Recipe here) as well as I have started making Millionaire Squares too, (Recipe here). What I have started doing even last year since we moved back home was I try to shop the sales. In terms of things I try to get things at the local grocery store where I can earn points, also through my credit card, to purchase the items needed for baking there. This is a huge help because I normally would be saving this money for a rainy day. It also helps because the side clothing brand to the grocery store also accepts these points. Every 10k is worth 10$ which believe me adds up. I have used these points when I was pregnant before too to buy clothes and tops that would fit my growing belly also too. finding a store that does this type of point system can be such a life saver towards the holidays when people are trying to hopefully not go into debt for it either. This year at the time of writing this blog, towards the end of August (I know sorry I write them early!) I have about 50$ in points that I will be putting towards the baking. This will be a great help too for the family party that I will be trying to also hold the first weekend in December so this saves a lot in terms of thinking about what I will make for that too.

And finally, another good thing is that if you are like me, having a list of ideas and gifts you have bought can be huge in trying to play things out. Let’s remember. This is Christmas. You are not competing with every person you know that also has kids and you also do not need to buy the best of every single thing out there. No holidays is worth going into debt for because you can spend months or even years trying to dig yourself back out. This is especially true with younger kids, I know for me people are trying to out do one another, and let’s be honest. Kids under the age of 3 and especially under the age of one will not remember a single thing that you got them. Start with building memories and creating traditions when they are super young so that as they go on they not only appreciate the gifts they see under the tree but they are more fascinated with the family time that they can spend together.

And let’s not forget about you too, I have 2 poetry collections out right now The Darkness and The Light which are great for the avoid reader in your life! The Darkness has some themed that may not be suited for a younger audience due to the subject matter and The Light is more of a collection about winning things, and overcoming some of those tough subjects from the first book.

Why You Should Find a Haunted Corn Maze

If you are anything like me then you know that when it comes to any holiday doing something specific to that date is something you look forward to doing. One of those things (Though I assume it may be hard to see in a major city with little to no places with corn fields) a haunted corn maze! They are fun for literally everyone!

Photo by Tim Cyphers on Pexels.com

A corn maze depending on where you live is usually in the fall. They sometimes have ways to go through in the day time for your little kids, you know the ones who are far to young to be saying up till dark not to mention parents having to deal with cranky kids staying up way past their bedtimes, and dealing with nightmares. The day time version is more of a mini stroll through the fields. They may have some fun aspects like apples in barrels, maybe some scarecrows and things. You know things for the kids!

Next up, starting at dusk you have the haunted corn maze. This is for adults of all ages well, teens too if they don’t wet the bed easily! The ones that I have been to have a certain theme to it. Maybe mad scientist or maybe a morbid family somewhere remote. The difference with this and the day time maze is the day time is far more leisurely. The night time one normally is a straight (Well, guided) path that you cant really roam around. Depending on the size there is also a lot of volunteers that normally help out with this to put on costumes and outfits to jump scare you at certain points in your path too.

You have it decided. You are going to take the plunge and head to one of these corn mazes! Regardless of time of day, I think it is important to remember the weather. Not the weather that day, but the previous weather also. Was it really rainy days before you plan on going? If so you may want to bring rubber boots instead of the sandals you are trying to wear when you are stretching the summer holidays just that little bit longer! Another would be maybe everything is wet. If you are going at night for example, lights are normally dim. Now while there may be puddles and muck, they also may have spots that as they become more and more wet they are harder to walk across. If you are traveling to this maze though and weather looks questionable, It may be best though if you check their social media accounts or even call them because if the weather changes they may even close the maze all together. Another bonus though regarding the weather, is that typically (Obviously location dependent) when corn mazes are functioning the weather could be completely clear with sunny skies but the temperature is maybe not as hot. That way you are not going to hopefully sweat the entire walk through.

Another thing you may want to consider is leaving all of your valuables in the car. This includes cell phone however if it does fit snug in your pocket you might be alright. I know when I went, there were certain times in the journey that you may have a little chase, obviously nothing serious this isn’t a gym it is a fun activity! This includes car keys! Keep them with someone who maybe has a zippered pocket, or maybe someone who has a purse that can securely shut too. Chances are you wont be walking around slowly and looking through your cell phone or having much of an opportunity to take a photo within the maze.

Purchase The Darkness here, and follow my author page for the details of the other poetry collections as they release! Available in Kindle and Paperback versions!

One good thing that is normally pretty neat is that typically, at least the ones I have been to is that they change the designs every year. One year I remember them making a Terry Fox outline, another was for a local food bank. The designs, not just the themes of these can be changed from year to year. That way families can make this an annual event and check it out each year. You probably wouldn’t do the same things every year if nothing ever changed! It also is really neat to see maybe different types of mazes and themes, and paths if you are able to drive to a few of them within where you live. I believe there is at least 3 that I know of that we would be able to drive to here in Nova Scotia.

Finally, if you are even still on the fence about those reasons on why to visit a corn maze or not, I would like to assume that any farm you are going to chances are is a local family putting this on. What better way to support local than by literally going to the action on a farm that may produce various products for your local grocery markets or corner stores. So often you hear of stories where farms are unable to continue to function due to rising costs, or whatever else in the world, why not directly support the farms and the families that run them.

There you have it! I know right now with my son’s being so small the chance of us going to a corn maze while they will not remember it might be very low since we are focusing on out own home and upgrading various things there. However I cannot wait to go to a corn maze and just stroll around with them exploring the paths and dead ends and turns as we go on our new adventures.

What is COVID like for Kids?

If are new here you may not have seen my post about what it is like for Covid in adults, however have no fear I have linked it here and you can read all about it here. This post in particular would be what I will be writing in regards to my kids having Covid.

So, my kids had Covid when I did. My son’s were aged 2 years old and my youngest was 8 months old. My youngest had gotten it first and then my oldest a few days later. Here is what it was like for them.

A fever was the first thing that happened. Both my oldest and youngest started with fevers. Nothing super high and they were manageable with medicine. The best thing we did was tried to space the Tylenol out in order to make sure they both got a dose before bedtime. Overall nights were not that bad I would say. There was one night that my youngest had a rougher night where my partner would spend time staying up with him and I was trying to get some sleep to pass my own sickness. That was really hard. The fever did break with one dose. I have seen people piggy backing Advil or Motrin with Tylenol to bring down fevers however we were lucky and only needed Tylenol though. We never needed to piggy back beds at all. Which was a relief. We also gave a warm back to my oldest one evening as well and this seemed to help also in terms of fevers. Obviously when you try to cool a temperature in children do not use extremely cold water as it can make them go into shock so this was just for cooling down a bit.

The second was runny nose and stuffed up. Mind you they never really had boogies dripping from their faces all day but they were far more stuffed up than I was. We just made sure it never ran down their mouths and their faces never got crusted with them and that seemed to help a lot.

Their appetites also were like mine however they did eat more that is for sure. With our youngest we tried to just increase his bottles of formula and did more of sweet fruit meals instead since we knew he would eat it. My oldest we did get some Pedialyte for him, Freezies which he didn’t care too much for and we pushed fluids a bit more. We also gave him different snacks and things to help make up for the meals he really wasn’t fond of finishing. This was great for them. Also lots of sleep. We let them sleep a bit more however we did still make sure they woke at a normal time in terms of day time naps. This was because even being sick, and how important sleep was, we did not want to make them have a totally changed schedule. This helped a lot also too.

As far as behavior goes, they both were as you would predict, more fussy. They were both very cuddly and thankfully my partner never really got Covid (Very faint line one day but the next was negative). He was able to also help with cuddles and things and when I needed to have a nap I was able to. I dont even want to imagine if we both had it how the house would have ran then! After a few days my oldest was back to running up and down the hall way and all around the house too.

Want to read my debut poetry collection, Click anywhere on this sentence to be brought to my first book in a trilogy of books called The Darkness, Available on both Kindle and in Paperback form.

Sleeping I would say overall was alright too. I think because they had relatively mild symptoms they did well. As I mentioned in the covid post here my youngest had a harder time sleeping for the first night he had it, he was up unable to settle, and then my oldest was okay waking a few times but overall okay though. I know there are some stories where kids did not sleep for a lot longer however we got lucky.

Another minor thing was that we all have a cough. Mind you it is hard to tell in my boys because they both seem to cough and if you are watching them cough sometimes they tend to make themselves cough more or something as well too. Which is incredibly funny but also annoying a touch too. Even later by a few weeks do we still have a cough, I talk about that more in the long Covid post and surprise symptoms that people can get in the blog post here. Some of them were not fun at all and it was actually nutty how it still lingered so long!

I will say though, I have heard stories where kids get sick, throw up, or have it far worse however our boys did really well for the circumstances. Kids are super resilient and are able to bounce back from things. Was Covid what I thought it would be in them? Sure. Though to be completely honest I never really sat here and though what if we got Covid. I wanted to sit here and think about everything we can do to prevent it however here we are when we still had gotten it. I just am thankful this stupid chapter is behind us and hopefully we wont be having this unexpected visitor in our home again. I am also super thankful that it ended in the house and we never needed to find any outside interventions in terms of needing actual medical attention. You always hope when your child or children come down with any sickness, that it can pass fast, and you do not need to bring them to a hospital.

Though, I am certainly not complaining about all of the extra cuddles that we did in fact get I don’t want them to be sick to get them again in order to get them!

Why we decided to Elope (Kind of)

If you are up to date on my socials you will know that I have recently been engaged. I couldn’t even tell you the date I was proposed to but it was the early August. We also knew before I was proposed to that we would be getting married. Why? Because we kind of planned on eloping! Here is why.

So after this year, having 2 children, both have my partners last name, which is not an abnormal thing to have happen. It is pretty common for children to have their fathers last name. I wanted to also have my children to have the same last name as me. I have been with my partner for going on 12 years, we have 2 kids, pets, as well as planning a 3rd. I wanted to be married. I felt like it was something that we should be doing by making it official.

Now you might be wondering why the eloping? and how is it kind of? Well, I say that it is when this blog debuts, we are actually getting married today! We are getting married at a wedding chapel a little bit away here in Nova Scotia. (I will write a better blog post about the details later once we get things back!). The reason why we are doing this was for numerous reasons.

One of those reasons is that it was relatively cheap. My brother and sister had a bigger deal when they got married. The whole deal, people invited, foods, stuff like that. We don’t have anything like that. In fact the time we get married is at 230pm. We have a half an hour in the chapel. We also have a maximum of 10 guests as well. Not sure if it includes ourselves or not but we figured it did. We have a couple who will be our witnesses. They are people who I have known since I was in college. They lived next door to my Ex which obviously they liked me a lot better and have been true friends. They have 2 daughters who will be there. There is also myself, and my partner and our two sons. And finally my best friend who I have known since I was in grade 6 and moved to a new school. That is literally it.

One thing I get asked a lot, why isn’t your family there? It isn’t about them. This is about me. I have always been the stranger one in the family bending rules and what not and well, this is no exception. That being said, truth be told, my parents also eloped. They didn’t tell anyone though. They literally got married and my Dad’s eldest brother and wife were their witnesses. At the end of the day they really can’t say anything about it. Do I think they are upset? Maybe. But I’m not thinking about them I am thinking about myself. We want to do this not because of money, gifts, people, sharing whatever. We want to do this for ourselves.

Another reason also is because weddings are expensive. When you invite tons of people or you have different ideas and what not. I do not want to make this some pricey event. Not to mention, my dog had some surprise vet bills so obviously we are not wanting to spend a fortune to unite us legally. Covid has also put a lot of people back. Some people may not have had work, some may be in the hole, food and oil and gas here is so much more expensive than it was last year. We do not want to have a big deal wedding and people feel like they have to spend any money on us or even getting to the venue, etc.

That is not to say though that in the future we will not be wanting some sort of ceremony though. Maybe in the following years or whatever on a particular anniversary we will have a reception officially or some mock wedding where we can share it with family and friends. Right now though we do not want to put that financial burden on people. We don’t even want it on ourselves as we are focusing on the house and trying to do renovations and what not also.

Our focus is just on making this a special day. We both have our rings, our small group to share the moment with, our son’s who will also be able to share the moment with too. There is even the package that we got that has 10 edited photos on an online album. Yes I will share some of those in a blog post afterwards too.

I guess we just wanted to be different. We wanted this to be something that was done and was more or less for ourselves. So often we try to please everyone, not just us but people in general. We do things that we think others will be want us to do. I am so excited that we will finally be joined but I would be lying to say it isn’t a little nerve wracking though. It really is a pretty simple wedding. I spend 100$ on my dress from Shein, I got the boys both matching outfits to wear also. The most expensive clothing piece was probably my spouses suit that he is renting from a store here. I’m making the bouquet with flowers from outside however I am still wondering what I will do if there is none really in bloom or maybe I will even think about getting some fake ones or something from a local craft store. At the end of the day, This is about our love, our family, and just making it official. If people get mad about it they obviously don’t understand our reasoning!

Life is too short to try to please everyone but yourself! And that is a true fact and something I need to remind myself about!

De-clutter this Fall with Me!

De cluttering any part of your life is one of the hardest things to do. If you are someone like me it can be especially as challenging. Why is this you may be asking? I have a problem with things that I encounter or should we say acquire and I build some sort of memory with them. When this happens (Which it never doesn’t happen) I always try to hang on to the item far longer than I should not to mention on top of it too, I also find even when things are broken I still hang on to it! Like what is wrong with me ?!

Starting small when de-cluttering is a big first step. For me I try to pick a few things Id like to de-clutter. Do you have random baskets around your house or boxes too? I do, I am really bad for having so many little spaces to put more things at around my house. You know those bowls or baskets that are kind of a “catch all”. Maybe you have one on the kitchen counter, maybe you have another one by the front door or back door where you put your keys. Maybe another is in the bathroom. This is me. I have so many of these that when I start to de-clutter this is where I typically start. I will pick a few baskets and literally weed through them for things that I may not want or need. If you have that lip balm in there chances are you haven’t picked it up in a very long time, if so, throw it away! Even old receipts and things you for sure do not need, get rid of it!

Another area that I need to majorly go through it my clothes! I hate going through clothes for many reasons. One of those reasons is that I am always paranoid that I will suddenly drop all this weight and I will finally be able to wear them again. I need to lose that mindset. Even if I lose that weight there is no guarantee that I will fit into those clothes again. Mostly for the fact that I carried 2 (And hopefully another to make 3) babies within my body. It can be super challenging to even accept that my body may never be the body I had before but keeping clothes that no longer fit or maybe are not my style is also not a good plan either. That is something I want to really do is go through clothes and weed out things!

Want to know more about me? This very personal collection is available for purchase for both Kindle and Paperback versions. There is also trigger warnings on the sensitive subjects that people may need when exploring this collection of poems that are very personal to me. Click anywhere in this sentence to get a copy today!

Papers is another area for me. I like to hang on to things so much for memories and all that garbage. Truth is, I just throw things in a filing cabinet and I know that I dont need them. They say when it comes to bills or papers or anything like that to keep them for 7 years. If you have past 7 years the chances of needing something is so low that you really should not hang on to it. One thing that I would like to do this fall is really go through my filing cabinet. Since having 2 boys we really have not went through it and I know there are some things in there we don’t need. You know how I know this? I had a Shoppers Optimum card, Yes the purple one that has been discontinued for years sitting in my wallet. I JUST got rid of it this week. So you know there are for sure papers in there that I do not need. Even cards. I literally keep every single card. I need to go through some and keep some and throw away others.

One thing for me when it comes to de-cluttering is that I have a low attention span. When I try to weed things out I find myself getting lost in the memories. I find myself wanting to explore instead of thinking logically. I need to remind myself that if I never touched it or used it in years and I wont in the future it needs to be throw away, or donated, or something so that it frees up space in the house. I even laughed with my partner saying I will be glad when we have our 3rd and final baby because that way I can start selling some of their bigger toys to make more space. You know jumpers and things of that nature also too!

The thing I need to remind myself before starting to de-clutter though is how good it feels afterwards. I know for myself when I try to get rid of things and I can finally stand back and look at how neat a place in the home looks it is such a satisfying feeling for me to see the work that has been done. When you have a closet that may be stuffed with things so your room looks nicer, this is until you open your doors and everything is barely holding in there by being so crammed. This is my closet. I really need to not only go through clothes but also go through the boxes and things that are also in there too!

In typical style, I will be posting before and afters on Tiktok as I clean however I will take a few photos of things that I have done for a future blog post and we can see the difference. And no, I promise I wont be just trying to re-position things so it looks like I got rid of things, I actually will. Not only for myself but for the sake of my home being messy sometimes because I just have far tooo much crap!!

What is Covid like for an Adult?

I am sure you are probably tired of hearing about Covid. We have been living with it for the past nearly three years. From all the weird symptoms and per-cautions, this is one virus that can really kick the butt out of someone. The symptoms can be long lasting and they can can even be nothing at all. That being said, Covid finally hit my own house this summer and might I add it absolutely SUCKED. I wouldn’t want it to happen again and I certainly would not want it to show up again for whatever reason.

Now you may be wondering, how did we even get it? As you can assume my stance on things, based on previous posts, I am pro-vaccine and I also wear my mask in public even if there is no mandate (for anything) in the province where I live now. My spouse also wears his mask in public also. We have two small boys who just recently were able to get vaccinated against Covid and we did everything we could to protect them. We got it from my parents. We let our guard down and we went against our better judgement and we let it happen. Long story short is that my Dad was outside painting the house, he said he was stuffed up but it was pollen from well, being outside. We believed it. It was actually Covid. It sucked and I hated every minute of it. I am also angry that after so long we protected our kids and we still got it because we didn’t trust our gut.

So here I am, a relatively healthy adult. I do have asthma which I talk about here. However in the big picture I am pretty healthy. I am rarely sick if only maybe once a year. It came on FAST. I took a test on Wednesday evening. this was about 530am. I just felt “off”. Like something was wrong. At this point I already knew that my Dad was positive, as well as my brother and nephew who went to my parents for dinner as well. Mind you this test showed negative however it was also a test that was left out in the car and went below freezing. Did that make a difference? I really cannot say whether or not it did. At this point once the boys went to bed my spouse had drove to the local library where he could pick up a few other sets of tests because we wanted them on hand. About two hours later I still was starting to feel even worse. I said screw it, I’m taking another test even though I just did. I had went outside to smoke a quick little joint, came back in and it was already positive. I knew it. I tried to sleep on the couch however at one point I was just far too hot and had to switch with my partner. By the morning I felt like utter crap. I had no appetite. I was stuffed up but my nose was not running.

If you want to check out my debut published collection of poetry, you can click anywhere in this sentence to be brought to the page, you can purchase it on both Kindle and Paperback versions!

The worst is yet to come also. My youngest was starting to feel stuffed up. We gave him a Covid test too. Mind you he is 8 months old and we basically swabbed his boogers and before the liquid even finished through the test as soon as it passed the test line it was also positive. I then treated both of us for fever and giving us Tylenol to help keep it down. Thankfully the fever was only there for maybe 2 days. That being said the body aches still sucked we at one point we gave Tylenol before bed for a few days (I will write more about what they were like with Covid in a separate post which can be found here). My oldest however, he did not test positive for Covid until a few days later where he also had a fever and was hard to settle before bed too.

One of the hardest things I think to deal with when it came to Covid is the feeling that you have when you are positive. It made me feel dirty. Like I had done something wrong and that I was totally useless. It was hard to even make myself eat, in fact I didn’t even eat for the first day and a half. I drank Gaterade however it was hard for me to even think about food. My appetite was next o nothing and when I tried to eat some Pringles it was just too much for me. I had to stop. Another thing that was very difficult to do was to try not to push myself even further. That was extremely hard to do. Sometimes I would feel like wow, I am on the mend, and other times as the day progressed, I would feel like complete garbage by the evening time. To the point I would just crawl into bed and maybe watch a show and fall asleep watching it on my tablet.

What drives me nuts the most though, And I will say it again here for anyone who does not know my stance. COVID IS NOT A BAD COLD. It is literally anything but. Maybe for some that is how it presents itself, but in the big picture it really is not. I can understand how this may be something that gets people feeling like crap and even wind up in the hospital. Heck, as I write this I also have a weird cough nearly a month later that just won’t go away. Long Covid is real. What I cannot stand seeing is when people also say “WE need to live with it” as their way of ignoring it and moving on. We are ABLE TO LIVE WITH IT. We have been for nearly 3 years. That being said, we can live with it safely. You know to make it disappear like many other virus and diseases too. One simple precaution that can be made that can literally protect ourselves and everyone around is masks. Even if people don’t want to admit. They have and will continue to save lives. Not to mention there are many other countries that also wear masks for pollution and other various reasons.

I will go into a bit more details in this blog here, where I even talk about the “Surprise” Covid effects that no one talks about because truth be told, there is so much about this virus that are not normal.

Diaper Bag Essentials

When having a baby a solid staple that you want to have is a diaper bag. You want it to fit everything you could potentially need when it comes to your little one. I know. Crazy during a pandemic considering we never really go far from the house but still a must have accessory. For us, being in a province that has had a curfew for 5 months and no private gatherings for another 7 months, we use our diaper bag in our living room to hold all the essentials also because it saves time from having to run up and down the stairs whenever there was an accident. With vaccinations ramping up we are hopeful that we will be using this bag for what it’s original purpose is, that would be going out!  Here is what we must have in it!

First, it is a Diaper Bag after all! Diapers are wipes are a huge essential. Especially if you are like us and you buy the bulk box of wipes. Instead of replacing the plastic containers with wipes we throw a whole bag in there. Since we use it more than our change table now that our son is growing it saves by just putting it in the bag as well as diapers are important too. For obvious reasons!

Baby Clothes, one at the very least. Whether you change your baby in their room or you have a basket or bag in the comment area. Nothing is more of a bummer or mini panic attack then you go to change your child, and you see that brownish smear up their leg or worse. This will save time for you because whenever you had had a major blow out accident you know there is no putting clothes on in order to contain the mess til you have the proper things to clear up! Having a space set of clothes or two is also great when you are out and about. As it goes, the one time you think you wont need it, chances are you will need it. Having a few sets of clothes is huge for making outings enjoyable for not just your baby but you also!

Next, I have not used however they still have a place in my son and future babies diaper bag. This is shampoo and body wash. When we did our registry we did so at Babies ‘R’ Us. They give you this mini complementary bag with some items such as this. We snuck them in the diaper bag and they have been there since. You could always use travel sizes of these and add them in also. This goes back to the previous point. You never know when you might have a big mess that wipes just will not cut. As well as a face clothe is also useful in case you do need to get a little soapy.

Next you have the little essentials. These would be the soothers, baby toys, or any miscellaneous items. We always made sure that we had an extra soothers because you never know when baby might spit it out, throw it, lose it, or it gets dropped. There is plenty of reasons why you should have a spare soother and whatever your might be it is better safe than sorry! Spare toys also is great if you are heading to an appointment that may have you waiting longer than you wanted to, or even a longer than normal car ride. You do not need to bring every single toy in the house but having a few toys in the diaper bag may just come in handy when you least expect it. A rattle or shaker toy works wonders, or something low jey and soft. If your baby is teething bringing an extra teether toy or two can also have huge benefits to helping baby have a fussy free outing.

Also something you can keep in if your child is old enough is food or snacks. This could be as simple as one or two of the fruit pouches that you can simple squeeze on a spoon or directly into their mouth. Or a few cups of apple sauce either! Just make sire you remember or check the beat before date. You dont want to be stuck with a crying baby who is hungry with no food to give!

And lastly, this might come as a surprise to some, buy a FUNCTIONAL diaper bag. You do not need the best looking, most zippers, whatever else fashion trend you think you need. Picture yourself in a park, a mall, where ever and carrying this around. Is it going to be functional? Comfortable? Annoying? I have an over the shoulder bag, its grey, and fairly good with space. I figure that I can use it for multiple babies as we have them also. I think I spent maybe 45 dollars. But they did have bags that are nearly 100+ dollars. Which to be is incredibly insane.

The biggest reminder I can give though, whether or not you go out a lot or not, frequently check the bag and replace the clothes or items in it. Babies grow so fast that you do not want to be out and about when an accident happens whether it be a diaper exploding or even a huge mess while eating or drinking, to find out the clothes you have in the bag will not even fit over their head! Even once a month would be better than never! And if that doesn’t work try putting an outfit the next size up just in case!

What you decide to put in your child’s diaper bag is up to you. Remember this is not something you need to pack full with items. Keep it simple, light, practical and you will notice that your outings will be much more pleasant!

Frowned Upon Parenting: Part 4

The following post has been made thanks to the app Peanut (Not sponsored) where you can ask and interact with communities and groups of fellow Mom’s. One day I had asked one of the groups that I was in something that they would be doing that they know as a fact other mom’s or parents would be frowning upon. These were some of the things they said. For me, I will be also giving my opinion on each of the situations and hopefully you get a chuckle out of them. Some of them I know that I do or will do in my parenting journey, others I completely disagree with.

If you want to see the previous part’s as they are released they will be added here:

One parent said they would be frowned upon for having a 2 hour screen time daily rule. Now I see absolutely wrong with this personally. I would honestly see more of an issue with 0 screen time. As much as I think limiting the use of technology with children is important, I also think it is important to remember that we live in a world that is very different than when we grew up. We live in a world there there is so many things that can be done virtually that we need to bring up children differently that we were raised. Does that mean kids should be sat in front of a television and their favorite shows turned on for the entire day? No. I think limiting screen time is highly important. I also believe that having some screen time is important as well and would do far more good than absolutely no screen time at all.

One thing that a parent had said that I have absolutely no idea what they were thinking was that they do not vaccinate their children. I could not disagree with this any less even if you paid me to agree with this. There is a reason why there are some childhood illnesses that have basically been eradicated. Vaccinations are a huge part of this. If you are not vaccinating your children based on your own beliefs than I am a firm believer that this should be considered child abuse as you are not providing them medical treatment to prevent further illness. I am also of the belief that if you choose not to vaccinate your children for whatever reason, if they were to get the illness that is preventable by vaccinations than you should be charged with child endangerment for not providing the proper care to prevent them from getting sick. Now I will state if a child has an allergy or a legitimate medical reason to NOT get vaccinations than so be it. Obviously I am not saying to get that done if they are unable to.

This one kind of blew my mind, someone had stated that they actually spoil their children by serving them in their room. The only situation I can remotely see this as being OK would be if maybe they are sick and they need something and you wanted to bring it to them. I will never in my life be found serving my children in their rooms. If they want something, as my mo always said “They have 2 feet and a heartbeat” they can get up and do it themselves. I can only assume these are older kids due to the fact that my son currently enjoys opening and closing his door and has no desire to actually hang out in there so to speak.

Stay up late is kind of one of those things I think it depends on the age of the child. I wouldn’t let my 2 year old stay up til 9 or 10pm because I know he would be hateful and angry and sassy and by that point way too over tired. However I think that yes there are times when they are up a bit later than normal. It happens for sure but regularly no. There is bed times for a reason and just like adults I am sure that we don’t just stay up for the sake of staying up either.

Swearing around them is a tricky subject. As a mom of a late bloomer when it comes to words my now 2 year old at the time of writing has been repeating EVERYTHING to the point where it surprises me what he does repeat. is that to say I don’t swear at all around him? No. There are times that I do swear around him. Sometimes things slip and it happens. I do however make a conscious decision to try NOT to swear in front of him because I know some time down the road he will probably repeat the word and it may not be in a favorable place either!

Judgemental moms against you is something that I can relate to as well as being a guilty part on that. Though I do believe there should be things that MUST be judged. If you are giving your baby random breast milk from strangers you bet your bottom dollar I will be judging that aspect of your parenting. The fact is that there is so many things parents can judge others on that if we really focused on that we would never get anything done and we would be feeling like a big ol pile of poop. Just like anything in life it is important for us to just focus on ourselves and not focus on what others see.

As you can see there really is a lot of things that parents frown upon others which is why I asked the question and figured that I would be make a mini series of what things parents know to be maybe not the normal lifestyle choices for raising kids! And why not put my own opinions within this too, because you never know how people may feel about these specific circumstances! Was there anything in the list above that you do or know you will have others frown upon your parenting style? Let me know in the comments below, maybe your point will be featured in the next set of Frowned Upon Parenting blogs!

Soooo Ready for September – Update

To say this summer was a flop is a MAJOR understatement. And by major I mean it was a total flop. It didn’t help that it started with Covid and ended with having to put our family dog down. Needless to say though I am ready for a new season and new adventures.

Our summer started off horrible with covid hitting out home. After dodging it for over 2 years including spending the beginning in Quebec where cases were super rampant, we got it. It literally kicked my butt. My two boys also had it and they were just having a really bad cold. I talk about this more in details in upcoming blogs, Be sure to look for those as it really isnt as big of a walk in a park as everyone makes it sound like. It completely sucked.

Another hard thing that happened this summer was that we had to put our Sheldon down, our family duck tolling retriever. I’m not sure if I was writing about it in previous updates however if you are a follower on any social media you would know that there is a bit of health issues that started the beginning of this year. We had tests done and what not but even medications at one point were not helping. As sucky as it was we made a promise to ourselves that we would never keep any animal alive just to have them alive. He just was not getting better and the medications he was on should have been causing some weight gain when he was steadily losing it. We made the tough decision that obviously something was wrong and to spend thousands to have the same outcome, he was not an young dog by any means either. It was by far one of the hardest things that we have ever had to go through but we feel like it was the right decision considering near the end the vet had said that she thought it was cancer and there basically is no coming back from that at his age and the surgery’s that would be needed and whatever interventions as well too. We will get another dog but it wont be any time soon though that is for sure.

Streaming has been rocky, I had suck high hopes for the summer to be able to stream some more than usual but here we are and I’m giving up on the 5 days a week streaming. We are back to focusing on the 3 days a week and getting back to consistency. When I want to do more I can totally do bonus streams but for the time being right now it is just going to be 3 days. I swear every single time I want to stream more though something ALWAYS pops up and I am unable to do it for some silly reason and this summer was no exception to that also.

I started another weight loss challenge in mid August, well the 8th of it. I feel a lot better about this than previous ones. I really need to control the munching late at night though so starting next week well, when I have the check in I will be keeping better track of calorie counting though because the over eating is not helping anyone. I have also recently have started back at the elliptical which is a huge win for me and I am really happy about that too! I kind of was sitting at the computer one day and was like wow I am going to find the cord to plug it in, and there you have it! It worked great and I was so happy to finally be able to get back to it. Why have one if you don’t use it!

I HAVE 2 BOOKS PUBLISHED! I did not think they would be done as fast as they are but I have two books out. The Darkness which is explained here, and The Light is explained here. Both are poetry collections with 100 poems, and I still have a third that is also coming out in the near future. I am so happy and excited to share them and feedback I have been getting has been tremendous. I am so happy though to be able to have this chapter opening. I have a few blogs talking about my methods and what not on how I could get not one, not two but three books published this year!

And lastly, in a little over a week I will officially be married, after being with the same person for nearly 12 years it was about time after 2 kids, and hopefully a third that we actually settle down and make it paperwork official. I will have a blog coming up about that also too. It is pretty low key and super low maintenance. It is kind of more of an elopement but kind of not? There is literally 9 people including myself and spouse and our two kids. To the point that we have to actually buy a package! It includes 10 digital photos on an online album so like that is pretty cool too! I am pretty excited but also not super excited because we didn’t want it to be a big deal either. Eventually maybe on an anniversary we will do something bigger like a mock wedding and reception but right now our focus is on the kids and home renovations to set us up for the winter and hopefully saving money.

Overall though, The summer was nothing like I expected it to be, but then again what in life is. Nothing. I just am still bummed about our dog being sick. I had this feeling back in April but hearing and having to actually go through it. No one ever talks about having to put down a pet because they literally are members of the family and do everything together. People also forget I find that Sheldon was around long before we had kids and he was a huge part of me feeling safe when I was home alone. I hope the fall has some more pleasant surprises but time will tell wont it!
