A Sunday Night Routine For a Great Start to the Week

If there is one thing I am guilty of, it is not putting myself ahead for the week. To the point that when Wednesday comes around I feel horrible about not accomplishing a single thing that I had HOPED to have had done. Partly because I never set myself up for success. I simply hoped that my brain would work the way I wanted it to without any help which is wrong. I do need a lot of help!

One thing I am starting to do seemingly this year would be that I want to plan my weeks out. Similar to work. When I was actually working and before I had kids I would plan out my week. I would know my shifts, when I would meet people, when I would have free time. Obviously it goes without saying that you really can’t plan every single detail but if you have specific things like an appointment or something then you certainly can plan that out also too. Like meals can also be planned too, even specifics like if you have to make phone calls. Why make phone calls every day when you can plan it out to be one day where you get all of that done. Sometimes planning fun things is also important too because we forget that planning does not have to be all business and it can also be things that we enjoy. Maybe you want to binge a show, or maybe start a painting idea that you have had for weeks. Planning your week can help you keep track and maybe even get ahead of your list too.

Doing something for you as I mention above is SUPER IMPORTANT. I am guilty of this but I am starting to do this more. Whether it be sewing, watching something, writing these blogs or planning them, scheduling my socials or making videos and being able to do specific things. There is many things that I do for myself. Even if that means taking a drive to pick up a coffee from Tim Horton’s or something in the process. Scheduling a video chat with a friend even. So much so that scheduling things does not have to be all about business and seriousness. However if you are like me trying to make poetry collections and published books, or even your art and sewing as part of a business then it is important to plan that stuff out. Especially if you don’t want to be waiting till the last minute (which I am guilty of). My whole mindset is that I want to set myself up for success and to spend as little time as possible on the computer. I want to make sure that things are going as planned and helping myself take steps forward and not steps back.

Relax! Have a bath is one thing that I need to do more of especially in the new year. I mean I can obviously start it now too which I should and will but I want to be more mindful. What is more relaxing than starting your week by having a nice warm bath before you head to bed and start the dreaded day of the week Monday. Especially in the winter if there is a chill in the air or something when you want to bring a book in the tub, or maybe watch a tablet show, or even just sit in there floating and relaxing as your muscles loosen up and you have a warm drink beside you (Or maybe even a cold one too!) and just letting the worries float away. I have so many bath bombs as I write this that it really is a disservice to myself for not wanting to have more baths!

Going to bed early is something that I need to do and is so much easier to say than it is is to do. Are you like me where you tend to go to bed early and then sit there on your phone and are still awake just as long as you would be sitting on the couch watching tv? Yeah that is me too. One thing I want to do to be mindful is I want to start reading in bed. I want to set a hard bedtime where I turn off all the lights. I also want to disconnect. I want to start reading a book and tiring my eyes that way instead of trying to use the screen to do that. As you may know, using the screen does not tire your eyes at all in fact it can make you even more awake and have an even worse sleep due to your eyes and the glare the screen has.

Overall, there are many things you go to to set yourself up for success for the week. These are just the ways that I am going to do in order to have a great week. I can say that when I do end up doing this, It actually is some of the most productive weeks I ever have because I have these goals and I don’t let anything get in my way of completing them! Though with holidays and things with life coming up, it can be challenge to do this I am going to do my best to develop these habits now in order to keep them going for many many weeks to come, if not for years and years.

Don’t forget too, There are going to be weeks that you are just super busy and maybe even don’t feel like planning things out, maybe you are sick or on vacation. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Nobody in this world is perfect or even close to it. If you miss a little bit there is always time to come back and set yourself up for another week too. I know we beat ourselves up but there is never a too late when it comes to success or planning anything out!

I forgot! Kind of?- Self Care Thursday – June 30th 2022

I actually forgot to write last week! ( and the week before that lol) What is funny is that I actually thought about it more than once how I was even looking forward to the update due to the fact I had so much stuff happening with my dog that it would have felt great to get it off my chest. I didn’t write it. But I guess this week is the update. Not so much fitness but a bit of mental health AND some goals for the summer also too!

Last week (Well more like 3 weeks now) I had to take my dog to the vet. Mind you he was feeling off and not behaving normally. I dropped him off later (1100$+) to find out that it may be his teeth but also he had a weird part on his chest xray. Fast forward to now and he was trying to get his food but not eating the hard stuff. I tried putting water in to soften it up and he did in fact eat it so Im wondering if maybe it was his teeth after all. They do have tarter he is not a young dog, but it seems go be well I guess for now anyways. I will say that I used these pill pocket treats from the vet and they have been a huge life safer. They are basically a gummy playdoh type treat you push the pills in and hope for the beat. Last time I had to give him pills he caught on with the peanut butter pretty fast and was not feeling taking them so this you literally pop it into his mouth and its done.

So fast forward to now. Everything seems to be going alright. I have recently taking out some money, well waiting for it to get into my account anyways. So I can get my book covers done. Id like the same artist to do all three however that will be challenging financially since it will cost a few hundred dollars. We also are getting home stuff done and need a few bigger items like a new car seat for my youngest as he is way too big for his bucket seat and also getting a second seat for the double stroller. In the summer when my partner is off on parental I’m hoping that we can walk every morning. That is my goal anyways and I hope he is also on bored with it too! I am getting excited to finally release these books and mentally am preparing myself for the fact that the books wont be immediate successes. I need to keep going with that.

I also am struggling (surprise) with weight loss. As usual. I am eating my feelings and my thoughts are not safe in the way that I feel like not eating the next day after a binge. I never binge enough to throw up but I binge enough to feel like complete dog poop. One goal I have said while my spouse is on parental is that I want to be able to go for walks. Recently I have purchased a little board that can go on our stroller for my oldest son. This will help with walks tremendously though. I am so looking forward to doing daily ones because I think it will be a huge thing for me to get energized and I hope we can go right after breakfast so that we get it done and over with. He also wants to get back into a bit better shape so that when he gets back to a regular routine for his job he will be able to not be winded.

As far as writing goes though, I think for the summer I will be writing these updates bi-weekly. He is on parental and I really dont want the pressure of writing these every single week though. I do have blogs to release though on Thursdays a bit more in depth about my life. I know by how I read some of you are maybe questioning things that I eat when I say I am a picky eater etc. This will be a great way for me to keep these active however not majorly thinking about it. I plan on being live more too so if you want to physically be able to talk and chat you are more than welcome to check out the stream here.

Self Care Thursday 1 – January 6th

If you are new to this blog segment, Welcome! I wont be explaining what I am doing every week but if you are interested in reading it you can check it out here. Where I explain everything and my goals of this particular blog post every week.

This is probably one of the longest posts for the series due to the fact I am writing it in parts before Jan 1st. Right now it is December 26th and I am already thinking about exercise, taking down the decorations (which is very uncharacteristic for me) and starting January with a completely fresh start.

Another thing I may have mentioned before is that I am really cutting back smoking weed. It is no surprise I am a puffer of the grass however a major down fall for me is that I am also a muncher. When I smoke I legit want to eat everything in sight. Going forward in the new year I will only be smoking.
on 3 days per week. These days are Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. My reasoning for this is because weekends are for a treat, and Wednesday is a more relaxed day. Monday and Friday I will be getting back into streaming and crafting and I never like smoking weed before I stream due to the fact that I get lazy and I either don’t stream, or I do an extremely short stream. Which is not good either. I have a feeling 3 days a week is going to be challenging for me however I am very happy with the decision.

*** If you would like to support this blog financially you are more than welcome to do so by clicking this link here to bring you to my Ko-Fi website. Supporting the blog via tips is NEVER pressured however if you feel so inclined to help out in another way this is a perfect way to do so! You can see some behind the scenes items as well as insider info on the store updates and uncensored blogs also coming soon!

In case you are reading this and did not know, at the end of November I had another baby!! You can read all about the details here if you wish, and with this pregnancy I had to end up having a C Section. This was totally unplanned and very hard both physically and mentally for me. One thing is that after having this baby I basically went back down to pre-pregnancy weight fairly easy compared to my 1st.  However it being the holidays I did obviously gain some pounds back!

Throughout the series I will have some sort of structure though for the blogs. I wont put a “1000 word minimum” like I try to do with the Tuesday and Saturday ones but I will try to do a decent size. That is for sure. This is how I will lay out the blogs for Thursdays:

Weight loss and measurements. Going forward I will be sharing my weight every second week and then measurements also. While I don’t want to push weight loss aside I also don’t want to hyper focus on it either. It is important to remember that while this is a big part of me getting healthy, it is not the only thing. Included in this will be the days I am under my calories or had struggled as well as exercise.

Smoking weed is a part I will be keeping track of. I know it sounds silly but my reasoning for this is because we all know when I smoke I munch and tend to over eat my calories. By cutting back on smoking I am in more control and hopefully I will be able to not self sabotage myself which happens so frequently.

Mental health is a role that I want to write about regularly. We never talk about mental health often when referring to overall health and for me I think it will be important to kind of monitor and reflect on how I am doing in the big scheme of things.

Self care can get lost. This is why I want to fully dedicate a paragraph to this. It does not need to be much but I need to remember that I should take some time to have self care for myself a few moments a week. It may not seem like much but as a mom of 2 under 2 I need to really make sure I am also taken care of, as hard as that sounds.

When My Son Goes to Bed

When my son goes to bed, what do I do you might be wondering, Absolutely nothing! FREEDOM!

Just kidding of course. What can be done is really up to anyone. And depends on the day also. Ill write the two ways I would spend my time “kid free” once he went to sleep. I say this because as I write this I am pregnant and well, some things changed from being pregnant and when I am not and how I fill my time! Let’s start with when I am not pregnant shall we!

My son goes to bed regularly around 7pm. This is after he is done rolling around in his crib, talking to himself, potentially throwing his blanket out of the crib and whining for it, or having his soother fall to the floor and having to go in to get it for him again. A few times a week I am streaming. At the time of writing this I am streaming 3 days per week, this might change in the fall when I want to add a bi-weekly podcast into the mix but that is an after thought!Currently at the time of writing this I stream and am live playing games, or even doing art on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. I typically start this as soon as he goes to sleep with my intro playing as he settles. My goal ultimately is to stream between 2.5 and 3 hours however sometimes less depending on how I feel. After if there is a few moments my boyfriend and I would watch something quick on TV. Sometimes it would be a quick show, or depending on how we feel an episode of a series that we are watching. On day’s that I don’t stream sometimes I do things like working on blog posts, writing in my novels or books, doing artwork for my house, different things as well too. This is time I try to look after myself. Rarely do I do housework unless maybe the dishes, I try to do that during the day so that tonight I can hang out and just relax without having to think about anything. I sometimes have a bath or sometimes do absolutely nothing at all!

Now, when I am not pregnant it can be a bit different in terms of things that I do once he goes to bed. The streaming never changes that is something that is good. And I do try to stick to the no housework rule. For my own sanity sake. The most I will do for housework as mentioned is the dishes however if the toys are everywhere on the floor I guess I would pick those up also! The major difference is that when my son goes to bed I would smoke a joint. I know. I am a stoner mom. However I don’t believe in smoking while pregnant obviously for multiple reasons. That is a different blog post though! Other than that I would say a lot of the things are the same. I view smoking a joint as if some people have a glass of wine. I actually talked about that in a previous blog that you are more than welcome to check out here where I talk about the difference between wine or weed and why I think one is viewed so drastically. I will also note that if my boyfriend is away for whatever reason or I am alone with my son I will not smoke in case something happens and we need to travel anywhere either. I treat weed just as I would booze. And occasionally my boyfriend and I especially in the summer time will will sit outside and have a drink together. I prefer coolers however me drinking a lot is kind of the days of my past when I was younger and doing the bar scene!

Success! You're on the list.

Something that is important to remember once your child(ren) go to bed is that there is nothing “Set” that you should or shouldn’t be doing. Sometime people will do housework and relax that way, and believe me I have done that myself if my house is in a state. Once we move (If we haven’t already by the time this has come out!) I am sure I will be in the cleaning boat as we get the house to our own happy place. There is nothing wrong with doing absolutely nothing though. Use this free time to catch your breath. Being a parent can be hard especially if you are in fast a single parent too. Some days with children are easier than others. Some days you have a teething baby or you are pregnant yourself again. You really need to find what works for you because it can legit change so often. For me I try to do something relaxing and self care like, regardless of what that is. I think it is a great way for me to decompress from the day.

When being a parent we often put our children first. This is natural and normal. I know my parents did that with myself and my brother and sister. Regardless of what we were doing they would put us first and that is okay. But I know my dad would sometimes go to his friends house for a few hours on Wednesday nights after work if he was home. My mom would go bowling on Thursday nights (Which I also did however this year being pregnancy about 7 months will not be for me!) and at one point she also did water aerobics. You really have to find something you enjoy and if you are a single parent that is okay also! A lot of the things that I do once my son goes to bed is at my house or I am bringing the camera to sit on my deck and enjoy the outside.

What are some things that you do once your children go to bed?
Is there anything different or the same that we happen to do the same?

Let me know in the comments below! I would love to hear what you do.

Putting Yourself First as a Mom

Putting yourself can be hard for anyone. As my dad always said “Stop burning the candle at both ends” which is a lot easier said than done too. Even when you don’t have kids a lot of people, like myself, always find themselves putting others above their own needs. Becoming a parent doesn’t change that you simply are just pushing yourself further down the list which is not always a good things. Yes, your children will go first in a lot of aspects of your life. However that doesn’t mean that you should ignore yourself. If you become run down and tired or exhausted even then you will find yourself struggling to put your children first as you may want to do.

I also realize while writing this that if you are a single parent with little to no help when it comes to your children that it may be hard for you to find time to put yourself first. I understand that. I am fortunate that I have a partner as well as will be living close to family that will be able to help when I need it for whatever reason. Not to say I will take advantage of this but the opportunities to put myself first might be easier than someone who is doing this alone. But that shouldn’t mean that you are any less important and there is no way to put yourself first. There just might need to be some creative out of the box thinking happening to do this.

Putting yourself first does NOT have to be some big extravagant thing. You can do very little things in order to do this. You don’t even have to spend a lot of money on putting yourself first either. Though we think of self care as a parent or a mom as maybe going on some shopping spree with the girls, or even a night to the movies with friends, it doesn’t have to be like that at all. It can be something as simple as watching a movie at night once the kids have gone to bed, taking a nice warm bubble bath and relaxing for an hour in the water. It can be creating some art with a pen and paper or writing a short story. Putting yourself can also mean doing absolutely nothing once the kids go to bed. Some of the nights I do this, i can tell you I feel the best. Not having to think about doing any house work or laundry just seems to be right sometimes. Remember, those dishes in the sink are not going anywhere, they will still be there in the morning if you don’t want to miss that special finale of the show you have been bingeing to catch up! even dying your own hair can be something that you enjoy doing, this is one I personally try to do when I feel run down, nothing like a fresh hair color or style to really enforce how i feel about myself!

Another thing we tend to put on the back burner as parents is our health. When it comes to our kids we are the biggest advocates for them when they are unwell doing everything within our power to make them feel better. When it comes to us, we will do anything we can to ignore the issue and hope it magically goes away. It sometimes does, but it also sometimes gets worse. I am guilty of this majorly. I need to start to put myself first. If you have to get take out, or skip cleaning for a few days and literally keep your kids alive that is a good thing. Sometimes when we are run down we also can be making ourselves sick too. This would be a prime example of when you spread yourself too thin. I used to do this especially at my old job working with disabled adults, You can read more about it here.

And lastly, if you are able to have someone whether family or friends help out. Take them up on the offer to look after your kids for a few hours. You do not need to spend some money on this. You could even take the time to go to a park or a quick walk. Even go to a picnic for one and read a book under a tree, or window shop or grab a coffee and enjoy some alone time. Sometimes the nicest moments i have is when I can go to a doctors appointment and I can jam to some music as well as just enjoy the quiet even if I am not doing a whole lot. And yes, with the virus around the world loosening though some places are extremely difficult in their 3rd or more waves of it, you can still be creative and think about things for you! Even if they are inside your own home too!

What I am ultimately trying to say, as a mother to another mother or father. Take care of yourself. I know it can be hard to think about it or to actually follow through with it but at the end of the day you cannot be the best you can be if you do not feel your best! Remember you are a great parent even if some days you might not have the cleanest house, or the best home cooked meals available. Doing your best looks to be many different colors and there is no right or wrong way to take care of yourself. As long as you are putting some time into it. It does not have to be every day either, it can be once a week, or twice a week, even a few times a month. There is nothing wrong or selfish about a parent putting themselves first for a little bit of self care! NEVER!

What are some of the things that you do, as a parent, that you really enjoy doing for yourself
Have you changed up activities over the years or do you stick to the same things

7 Things I Do To Unwind

Before I begin, what someone does to unwind is really subjective in the sense that what I may do to unwind may be something that you absolute hate doing. That is totally okay though! This is just my experience in things that I do to help me unwind when I am feeling stressed or overwhelmed or even just wanting to look after myself with a bit of self care. There is no right or wrong way, though if you are doing something and it is not helping to relieve whatever you may be feeling it may be safe to say that you are not successfully unwinding!

Baths are something that I enjoy doing the most. Though when I am pregnant it is not as easy since I love them to be super hot and in the first trimester they kind of frown upon having really hot baths due to the fact that you can raise your body temperature up significantly which is not good for a growing fetus though! I love relaxing in the bath especially when my spouse is home because I can just lay back and put a facecloth over my eyes and drift away. Sometimes I will read a book, sometimes I bring my tablet in and attempt to watch a movie or show depending on how the WiFi is there which is not normally good. I also have the lights usually dimmed so that it really is a darkened space where I can just relax. I know easier said than done since sometimes my minds just too filled with thoughts but regardless the laying in a tub still does help me feel better especially if I am feeling ill also too.

Coloring, especially in adult coloring books has only just started to become popular in the last 10 years. With multiple books coming out for adults with complex or simple designs for all of your creative needs. My only question for this is why has it not become popular sooner! That seems insane that it really just started to become popular! I have a bunch of different books and sometimes I just like to sit with a show on in the background or light music and just color or chip away at a page that I had already started. The possibilities for coloring and changing how an image can look really can help pass time. There has been days where I have colored and literally hours have passed by and it felt like only a few moments!

Binging Netflix is something that I love to do. I don’t normally do this with my significant other due to the fact we only watch so many shows at night and he also does not like to fully watch a series he likes to savor them. If it is an evening where I am not live with streaming and playing games I love to find a good show especially crime shows and just binge the show to the entirety! Sure, it is a bit of a bummer when it is all over but that just means I have to find another show to do it all over again with to!

Gaming is something I never used to do unless I was live, Now it is something that I find myself doing more either by myself or when I get a moment to spare like when my son is sleeping. Sometimes I play with friends sometimes I play by myself, it really doesn’t matter. Gaming is something though that I have done before, thought it would help me unwind, when it really doesn’t at all. Some times I think gaming is going to be a great way to de-stress and unwind when really it does nothing and I end up not gaming after a few games.

Art or crafts is something i routinely come back to. Especially if I have just gone to the dollar store to get some new materials or I have seen a new hip thing that is happening across Facebook or Pinterest too. I love to create things and if it is something I Have the things to make I am all for it. Sometimes I even do bits and pieces though when I do things and end up finishing a project a few weeks later but honestly I cant stress enough how freeing creating somethings can be though. I love to do anything and everything, from painting, gluing things together, sewing sometimes and even just trying to re-invent things too!

Notes or list and planning is on my list, and I know what you are thinking, it really is not as boring as you might think! I actually love planning things. Making a list and making things that I can see what is happening in the coming month or weeks and planning what I need to do around the house makes me feel like everything is in it’s place. It makes me really feel like I have my stuff together even though it really is quite the opposite! I especially feels good to do it at the beginning of the month and putting everything in my calendar and planner so that I don’t miss anything. This just helps me to plan writing, house work if there is something that i need to do specifically, doctor appointments if I have any, streams, and things of that nature too!

And last, but certainly not least, doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS TOTALLY FINE! Sometimes at the end of the day, I have no cleaning to do, I heave no streams or planned gaming, I am caught up on blogs (rarely but it does happen!) and Iegit just lay on the couch doing absolutely nothing at all. Sometimes I watch a show I recorded or netflix or amazon prime video, sometimes I sit on my phone and creep the web for the gossip and memes of the day across, sometimes I just do nothing. And there is nothing wrong with doing that.

As you can see I think I have a pretty standard list of things I do to unwind, there really is endless possibilities as to what you do that makes you feel more at ease in the world.

What do you do when it comes to unwinding?
Is there anything on my list that you also do and it helps you too?

Let me know in the comments below, I am always looking for new and creative ways to unwind at the end of the day!

6 Things I do for Self Care

Things that people do for self care can really differ from person to person or even from country to country! I think it all depends on what makes a person and more specifically, YOU happy! There is no right or wrong way to do self care that is for sure. I think the ones I typically do are pretty basic but they help me when I have had a stressful day and just want to unwind or reflect.

Art is something that I need to do more of which is really hard sometimes. I like doing anything from painting, to sewing and many other ways in between too. I liek art because I can choose the medium that I want to do. Whether it be painting or drawing or coloring or anything else you can think of too. I need to do more but sometimes it can be so hard to focus on it and really stick to it. Not to mention the amount of sketch books or canvas or odds and ends I have is just insane when you think about it. I even have supplies to make candles which I am probably going to re-explore once we move into a bigger home again too! The beauty about art too is that just about anyone can do it! Regardless of your age or skill level you can give it a try too!

Baths are kind of my way to relax at the end of a day. Only thing is when pregnant it is extremely hard to do when I take baths with the water that is so blistering hot. I need to tone that down a bit. I love baths to read a book in, Sometimes I just sink down and lay with the warm water around. I have even been known to be so relaxed that I have fallen asleep in the tub too!

Binging shows on Netflix is totally a way of self care for me. Whether I am watching the latest comedy series that just got dumped on there or binging the latest crime show to the fullest too. Sometimes sitting down with a bowl of snacks and just trying to dig deep into the world of entertainment and real life mysteries is a great way to just let loose and not think about the world you currently live in too!

Writing in note books is something that I might be the only or one of the only people who do this. I am low key obsessed with notebooks and lists and things. This is so bad that if I screw up a notebook I will re-do it. Remember me mentioning it in the weight loss blogs? yeah it goers for nearly everything from a budget book, to do lists, and whatever else there is too! Sometimes for me a way to show self care or relax is to lay out my planner and schedule and plan the next few weeks ahead. I don’t know why it makes me feel at ease but it totally does when I know what to expect and don’t need to over think or panic if I am running low on a deadline or something. Especially when I try to do multiple things, like blog writing, streams and how long to do them, appointments, scheduling tweets or pins for pinterest too. Having everything laid out and able to check things off is so satisfying!

Gaming is something I have recently started to do when I am not live. I more specifically started to game a bit more off stream when my son was born. Sometimes the feeling of being live can take away a lot of things so by gaming when he naps after of course, he is more regular in his patterns, or when he goes to sleep at night and I’m working on things to do in game like challenges or something too. Ive been trying to take my gaming more seriously and I think by doing this trying to focus on being an average player in my game of choice, Dead by Daylight.

And lastly, I know this may come as a shock to some, But sometimes the best self care for ANYONE is simply doing absolutely nothing at all! There are times when I want to plan self care or I want to do things when I put my son to sleep and at the end of the day I can have every single thing laid out but I end up doing squat. Sometimes we need to turn our brain on auto-pilot and just do whatever it is we feel like we should be doing at the time even if that means cuddled under a blanket and falling asleep on the couch to your favorite show you tried watching the last 3 times but you got interrupted somehow or some way.

As you can see these may seem pretty simple for me. Occasionally I try to workout too as a means of self care but I try to not look at it like that as I am typically not enjoying myself even if I feel better when I am done! Self care is hard to define for one person since it can be so drastically different to the next. But whatever you choose to be your self care enjoy it! Don’t do something you truly do not like or it will not be self care and can slowly (or rapidly) turn into a chore! I know sometimes when I enjoy something I can subconsciously end up over doing it and it gets to the point I no longer do this activity anymore. Don’t be like me!

What are some things that you do for self care?
Have you learned new things since being confined in your home that you now consider to be helpful in relaxing?
